While I've had a lot of fun making the laser cut wooden maps, I wanted to find a way to make these maps that was quicker and easier to make. Cheaper too! Like my previous post where I made the Columbia River, I used an Xacto knife to cut layers of paper, and added a layer of glass between each layer. The text is printed on transparency paper, and when they're all put together it gives the same appearance of the laser cut maps, without having to find a laser cutter. They're held together with shower caulk (weird, I know, but I worried about other adhesives bleeding too much) and the wooden blocks in the corners help hold everything in place.
While it's not meant to be hung, it looks great in a frame holder or just laying flat. The only downside is how reflective it is. The plastic housing that I have all the layers inside is extremely shiny, which was irritating while trying to take its photo and only seeing my own reflection staring back.
I really want to make more, but to save my fingers from the Xacto use I would really like to get a Cricut or Cameo to do the cutting for me. To justify getting one though, I'd like to see if any people are interested in buying them, so I'll run a trial period on Etsy and see if they sell.
